Vijayawada Cultural Academy and Exray Samskritika Academy jointly arranged a ballet titled Vajra Bharathi, a novel and inspiring show depicting the Indian freedom struggle beginning from the Sepoy Mutiny to the Independence. The el
aborate programme was held at Gokaraju Laila Gangaraju Kala Vedika in the G.V.R. Government College of Music and Dance.
The ballet depicted the important events in the history of the freedom struggle featuring Mangal Pandey’s valour, Jhansi Rani’s heroic story, the Jalianwalla Bagh Massacre, the sacrifice of Rajguru, Sukhdev and Bhagat Singh, the Dandi March, Alluri Sitaramaraju’s patriotism, the Quit India Movement and many more historic, memorable and inspiring incidents.
The 20-member artist group did justice to the characters. The ballet was written and directed by Suravarapu Ramesh Babu with choreography by Suravarapu Ramavani. Some of the important characters were played by Vempati Mohan (Mangal Pandey), Tejaswini (Jhansi Rani), Hemasunder (Bhagat Singh), D. George (Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu), K.S. Srinivasa Rao (Alluri Sitaramaraju).
The roles of the Britishers were essayed by Mohanaram Prasad, Manmadha Rao, A. Venkateswara Rao and B. Anjaneya Raju. Other dancers were Yasaswini, Priyadarshini, Sai Tejaswi and Suravarapu Ramesh Babu who also narrated the episodes. Good music by K. Suryanarayana and his troupe complimented the show.
