Former professor of English at the Sambalpur University, Shukla is an expert in comparative literature and aesthetics. With a number of works to his credit, both in Oriya and English, he is also the founder-editor of Journal of Comparative Literature and Aesthetics since 1977.
His well-known works The Concept of Imitation in Greek and Indian Aesthetics and The Concept on Mimesis in Poetics, were published by Rupa & Co.
A seminar on ‘Comedy and humour in modern Oriya literature’, chaired by Baishnab Charan Samal, was also held. Mrinal Chatterjee, Associate Professor, IIMC, Sudhanshu Sekhar Pradhan of D.K. College, Jaleshwar and Sabitri Dash of Angul Women’s College deliberated on comedy and humour in poetry, prose and drama forms of literature respectively.
