Stargazing

Tryst with music

Cinematographer Ravivarman springs a surprise when he tells you that he’s just recorded a song for ‘Moscowvin Kaveri.’ The film will also mark his directorial debut. “I’ve always had an ear for music. My dad was a stage actor and singer in our village. Those were the days when they sang without a mike. Now I learn classical music from my daughter’s guru,” he laughs. Listening to Ravi hum the tune, composer Thaman suggested Ravi sing it himself. “The song and Vairamuthu’s lyrics for it fascinated me. So I went ahead. I made my mentor Kamal Haasan listen to it, without telling him that it was in my voice. But he guessed it, praised me and suggested a few corrections in my diction. I rehearsed thoroughly and went back and recorded the piece again,” he says.

Bharat in action

After `Dharmapuri,' which didn't do much for him, director Paerarasuhopes to hit the bull's eye with `Pazhani.' The film, an out and out commercial entertainer in Paerarasu style, has Bharat playing action hero. Kajal Agarwal is his heroine. "We can assure you that `Pazhani's pace will not allow a moment of lull," says a member of the unit. For the first time Shakti Chidambaram has his production manned by another director, probably because Chidambaram is busy directing Sundar C. for `Sanda.' You hear `Pazhani' has done big business

Impressive team

Vikrant and Bharati (of `Ammuvaagiya Naan' fame) come together for `Nenjathai Killaadhae,' (another twodecade old film title returns anew) being directed by Agathian. None can forget Agathian's `Kaadhal Kottai' easily. Vijay's cousin Vikrant is waiting for the right break and `Nenjathai .' would probably be it. As for Bharati, she has sifted the offers that came her way after `Ammu .' and has settled for `Nenjathai .' The talkie part has been completed and the film is being planned as a Pongal release. Gangai Amaran's son Premji, who had you in splits as the gawky cricket player in Chennai 600028, is scoring the music for `Nenjathai Killaadhae.'
