A still from Yatagarasu.

An entertaining theatre and dance show for all ages. Yatagarasu is a coming of age story- about seven classmates and their journey to discovering courage, wisdom and compassion. A comedy genre combining theatre with hip hop, jazz, bharatnatyam and contemporary dance forms. This is a story of building friendships, relationships and building a future.

Seven students pave their way through classroom and home, through family and friends, through confusions and contradictions, slowly beginning to realize the need to learn the art of building. To build a future, to build a relationship and to build themselves as who they are, and while doing so they find their own mythical bird, a Yatagarasu : A You in You, you never knew. Providing courage, wisdom, compassion to all those who need it.

Group: J Productions and Dur Se Brothers Director: Yuki Elias Playwright: Yuki Elias & Nikhil Katara Language: English with bits of multilingual parts Time: 80 minutes

Director says:

"Yatagarasu is a high energy dance comedy theater show. With a cast of nine dancers and actors the story weaves in personal stories of growing up and school days. Each school kid goes on a personal journey in search of a Yatagarasu- a miracle bird that helps those who are lost. The characters are fun, endearing and every one of our audiences has connected with them. A feel good throw back to school days for adults, and a fun cathartic way to look at yourself and school life for kids. A show truly for all ages, come watch Yatagarasu- and find a you in you, you never knew.

The Hindu Theatre Festival had always been at the back of my mind while creating Yatagarasu. I knew the minute the show was ready, I'd want to send a DVD of it across to the panel. There is no better platform that we have in India, that offers us the scale both in terms of technicality, and venues, not to mention the wide variety of audiences that the Hindu theatre festival gives us the opportunity to perform for. I've performed twice with different plays at the festival before- in Atul Kumar's Noises Off as 'Brooke' and then with our mask based comedy soon after….and now I'm delighted to be able to bring Yatagarasu!"
