Boost
“Boost is the secret of my energy,” says a teenaged Sachin. “Our energy,” says the senior Kapil Dev. In the early 90s, students used this line to great effect. Sachin first appeared in this advertisement in 1989 along with Dev. Many years later, a more senior Sachin appeared with new captain M.S. Dhoni. The ad remains popular.
Yeh Dil Maange More
A popular commercial of the late 90s, it had a group of children wearing Sachin face masks and bats, gathering at a village playground. Sachin himself arrives with a mask, removes it and shares a Pepsi with the children. You personally feel the levels of excitement the children experience, and the easy bond he shares with them.
National Egg Co-ordination Committee
This ad starred popular Mumbai Ranji players, including Sachin. It was meant to popularise the concept of eating eggs, and shows a boy shaking hands with all the players, causing them pain. Children found the message that you could be stronger than Sachin, a motivator.
Adidas
All of us have remained glued to television the moment Sachin came in to bat. This advertisement reinstates that fact. It was a technological breakthrough then, using freeze frames and 360-degree rotating images of Sachin and the bowler, with the entire nation transfixed while he was batting.
World Cup 2003
The cheekier side of Sachin comes out here. Shane Warne and Carl Hooper chance upon a dazed-looking Sachin in a departmental store. He seems to have lost his memory. They try to whisk him away on a plane to Honolulu, far away from the World Cup scene. But Sachin emerges smarter, sending them packing instead. Shane Warne’s anglicised ‘Iski Toh Gayi’ also brought out a chuckle.
Britannia
Sachin vies for the biscuits a young boy is eating. His mischievous smile and cheeky expressions, and the natural rapport he shares with the boy as he steals a bite from him, or takes a lick of the cream biscuit endeared him to children.
