I will complete +2 in 2014 in the Arts stream. I want details of institutes that offer BSW/MSW programmes. I am keen to join NGO activities. However, on completion of the course, I would like to work for a corporate for some time. I will be pursuing education on my own, and through loans.

Many universities now offer social work as one of the combinations at the Bachelor’s degree level. Only a few universities and some of their affiliated colleges offer BSW (Bachelor in Social Work) as a three-year course. The Master’s degree course (MSW or MA) is available in over 50 universities. Besides, a large number of colleges affiliated to them have been permitted to offer Master’s degree courses. The courses offered by TISS and the Delhi School of Social Work (Delhi University) are rated very high in the employment market.

Typing and shorthand from any institute will help you to learn about the nuances. Considering that you are pursuing B.Com you should learn Tally and similar accounting programmes which will hold you in good stead considering that you will be taking the line of business and commerce.
Starting early will help you to get to various finance and accounting programmes viz., Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretary, Law, to mention a few. No doubt typing and shorthand will help in the clerical work, but we at EducationPlus request you to look beyond and ensure a career in the field of accounts and taxation, to mention a few.

Tackling maths
I have not been able to clear the Pre-University examination (State level) in the last two attempts. At this point I have to clear one paper in Mathematics; in others I have got marks between 67 and 74. I am contemplating discontinuing studies. Is there any alternative?

It is advisable that you complete the Pre-University education as you have invested lot of your time. Mathematics is no doubt an issue for some of the students; you can overcome it by intensive study and practice. Revising the previous years’ question papers and practising helps. If you still need support, connecting to your teacher who taught you Mathematics at college will surely help.
Making a shift at this juncture is not conducive as you will have to start from scratch in the new study venture that you are contemplating.
