Cersei is the queen in King’s Landing . Jon Snow is a Targaryen. Daenerys is sailing to Westeros, and Lyanna Mormont is the sassiest little girl in town. The sixth season of Game of Thrones has left fans utterly flabbergasted and craving for more. While we all know that the 10-month wait for the next season is going to feel like forever, we recommend that you find other fandoms to obsess over meanwhile.
If you are into thrones, betrayal and violence, here are a few TV series to check out
The Tudors
The Tudors should be second on your list after Game of Thrones . This fictional TV series is inspired by the true story of King Henry VIII, king of England who stepped over the Catholic Church and married six times. The series focuses on the changing lustful passions of the King and the political power play that comes along with it. Look out for Natalie Dormer who played Margaery Tyrell and Henry Cavill of Superman fame as a part of the cast. Needless to say, Jonathan Rhys Meyers has rocked the role of the protagonist.
The fourth season was last aired in 2010.
Reign
If Vampire Diaries met Game of Thrones , this would be the outcome. From corsets to crowns, Reign has it all. This American TV series is also a spin of on a famous historical personality: Mary, Queen of Scots who ruled France in the 1500s. Although the plotline is not very similar to the actual history, Reign covers themes of love triangles, deception and desire. Remember Susan Pevensie from the Chronicles of Narnia films? She plays one of the leading roles.
The series has completed three successful seasons.
House of Cards
It is not set in a medieval background, but fans see shocking similarities in the themes and plot lines between both the shows. House of Cards is Kevin Spaceý’s rise and fall through the political scenario in Washington DC, just like the rise and fall of Westerosi houses in Game of Thrones . The storyline is raw and full of unexpected twists; the series is a growing counterpart to GoT in terms of popularity.
Season five will air in 2017.
Versailles
The British-Canadian TV drama has aired only one season; but it has caught all eyes as it featured a lot of nudity, homosexuality and cross-dressing. The storyline is based on the construction of Versailles Palace by Louis XIV in France and how the royal family gambles for survival. The show is a combination of bloodshed, power, betrayal and sex: the formula Game of Thrones follows too.
