End of netbooks?

Do netbooks — the low-end laptops that made an entry a few years back featuring just enough processor speeds and specs to provide access to the Web and run low-power software like word processors — have a future?

Many analysts feel the end is near for the gadgets that seemed to make no sense in the pre-tablet PC era. Samsung too is rumoured to exit the netbook market to focus its energies on the growing tablet PC market. Looks like the success of iPad killed an entire range of products.

Let it snow!

Google is one company that never ceases to infuse humour into its work. In keeping with the holiday spirit, it has released a new Easter egg. Just type “Let it snow” in your Google Search bar and hit enter to allow snow flakes to envelop your browser. It does not matter if you are from a tropical country and have never seen snow before in your life. Google is spreading some happiness. Of course, if you are unable to see your screen because of the Google snow, you can hit the ‘defrost' button that will appear on screen.

Make a video short for Firefox

Mozilla Firefox, the open source Internet browser that boldly brandishes the tagline “the only browser that puts you first”, has announced a short video competition to spread the word about its capabilities. On its official blog, the not-for-profit organisation has announced that submissions can start from February next year via a dedicated website http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefoxflicks/ for the competition that promises to feature top Hollywood people as judges. It is a global competition. So video bugs, keep an eye open.
