Those tender moments when a wedding takes place – the exchanged glances, the laughter, the tears, the anxiety –which candid shots capture, lost in the posed photographs of conventional wedding photo albums can be seen at Clicked, an exhibition on candid wedding photography. The first-of-its-kind exhibition, presented by Tamarind Event Management Solutions, on at Durbar Hall Art Gallery, showcases the works of five photographers who specialise in candid wedding photography. The works of S. L. Anand, Abraham Tharakan, Sanoj Kumar, Jinson Abraham and Ameel Sabil are on show.

Candid photography is unlike regular photography in that it doesn’t work in ideal conditions, depends on a lot of variables and requires more work. Especially for weddings. The frames put together a collage of wedding stories. Little bridesmaids gaping at the bride, a bride resting her feet as a little girl stares at her intently, a bride stealing a glance at her brand new husband, the tali being tied, a newly married couple outside a palace in Rajasthan…these photos demand a smile. Each is worth more than a thousand words, they tell stories that we would miss in the hustle and bustle of a wedding.

Arabind. C of Tamarind says that the idea was born out of a desire to educate people about this option of recording memories for posterity. Not just people also budding photographers that there is a career to be made with candid wedding photography. “It is different from what one gets to see usually. Anyone with a camera thinks candid photography is easy. It is not. You need an eye for that perfect moment, to capture that emotion as it happens and it can happen any time. And the perks – good money, getting a chance to travel to exotic places, a certain degree of autonomy,” he says. The exhibition which is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. concludes on July 27.
