The cricket season is well underway and us Indians being Indians are following each game with bated breath and enjoying all the mauka s and chauka s. Here are a few apps to make your following the game more convenient.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

This World Cup app is quite comprehensive, in that it provides complete tournament coverage – live scores, match highlights, tournament stats, match reports, ball-by-ball commentary – the works. You can also watch video highlights of the matches and read expert columns and exclusive interviews. Basically, all the information pertaining to the World Cup is available to you in your pocket. The app is pretty slick, easy to use and provides a “social hub to get interactive with #cwc15”.

ESPN Cricinfo

An all-time favourite, the ESPN Cricinfo app updates you with the latest scores, players stats, rankings, exclusive write-ups, breaking news, et al. There is also a ‘Matches’ section so you can easily access results and fixtures by month, team, series and type. You can also add content to the ‘Favourites’ section and set a reminder for that match you really wanted to watch.

CricBuzz

Another solid cricket app, CricBuzz has a World Cup section for you to follow this season. Apart from all the features of a regular cricket app, CricBuzz has some very interesting content, like “caricatures of captains from 1975 to 2011 sporting their jerseys, historical timelines, a ‘Teams’ section to follow your favourite team, venues, squads…” A big plus is the snazzy widget that makes opening the app to check scores unnecessary. The developers have also promised a ‘Video Highlights’ section soon.

InstaCricket

A fairly recent app, it is nonetheless clean, easy to use and fairly quick. This is the World Cup 2015 edition and it lets you follow the matches and gives live scores. InstaCricket is one-dimensional, in that it does not promise you all the additional features of a regular cricket app, but delivers ball-by-ball scores, comprises a swipe calendar to load matches by date and provides results for part matches. While the interface is smooth, the overlapping of long names (of the cricketers) is one little flaw that I found. The developers have promised to add further matches and leagues throughout the year.
