Pooja Singhal's collection celebrates tradition

‘Pret' with soul is how Pooja Singhal sees her captivating couture line. She focusses on traditional weaves from Maheshwar and Bengal on khadi, cotton, handloom and linen to create a contemporary oeuvre of kurtis, kurtas, tops and linen.

But, it is the use of mesmerising motifs in appliqué, embroidery and block prints that makes the Ruh collection distinctive.

Enormous leaf and floral motifs in embroidery and appliquéd at strategic points lend the kurtis and salwars a dramatic touch. Flowing chiffon and georgette tops and saris add glamour to the collection.

The colour palette ranges from soft tones to stunning reds, yellow and blacks. Providing ethnic embellishment are block prints, appliqué and badla work.

Catch a bit of summer magic in a white-on-white appliqué top or kurta, or an appliquéd salwar suit in the palest pink.

Or, for special occasions, an exquisite chiffon and georgette sari lovingly sprinkled with ‘badla' dots.

The ‘Ruh collection' exhibition is on at Apparao Galleries, 7 Wallace Gardens, IV{+t}{+h} Street, Nungambakkam, till March 10.
