Waffles on a stick anyone?

What makes a better snack if not waffles, dusted with sugar, sprinkled with nuts and drizzled with caramel sauce? The same, but on a stick

What’s better than waffles? Possibly, waffles on a stick. At Westfield, the latest kiosk to be added to the bustling landscape near Besant Nagar beach, there are also crepes and tiny Dutch pancakes, called Poffertjes, to choose from. The idea for the kiosk came about when proprietor Remy Peter tried the street-side lolly waffles and fluffy poffertjes in Belgium and The Netherlands. To give a touch of authenticity, the team was trained on the original recipe in Belgium and Amsterdam, while the waffle irons and the Poffertjes griddles were procured from Germany and The Netherlands.

They offer a simple, eggless menu: first choose the base — Brussels Waffle, Belgian Lolly Waffle, Poffertje or Crepe. Then, decide on toppings, which include ice-creams, nuts, fruits and choco chips, and drizzle it with nutella, honey, maple syrup, caramel, dark chocolate or white chocolate sauce.

The crisp lolly waffles are exciting to eat from a stick, but a tad chewy. The poffertjes, though they vaguely resemble idlis, taste like pancakes. The size, however, lends them some fluff and a lot of cuteness. The Brussels waffles are pretty good too. Carefully choose the toppings to adjust the sweetness and fresh flavours of the fare and you’ll have yourself the perfect beachside snack. They have plans to open a second outlet in Nungambakkam too.
