V V S Laxman, mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad, is confident of a great show from the team. He talks about the right balance in the SRH team and his long association with Vizag.

The team The last two years has been a fantastic experience with Sunrisers Hyderabad. The environment is exceptional and the group is excellent. We have tried to create an environment where everyone feels very secure and relaxed and they can go out and play with a lot of freedom. Last year was a bit disappointing for us because we didn’t play to our potential. Hopefully the third season will be better.

Take on younger players I have been very fortunate to play with talented players who have high potential and are receptive. Over the last two years it has been a great opportunity for me to share my experiences with these talented players. I don’t try to force my ideas on them. We discuss various aspects of the game be it skill-based or the mental aspects. It has been quite fruitful so far.

The training session The trainings have been very intense and specific. We have a balanced team and have good depth in our batting. Bowling has always been our strength. We have added firepower in Trent Bolt and skill bowlers like Siddharth Kaul and Praveen Kumar. We also lay a lot of emphasis on fielding. Above all, we have players who work as a team because ultimately cricket is a team game.

Association with Vizag Vizag is a fantastic city. I have always enjoyed coming to Vizag. The first time I came was when I played the Under-15 south zone at the Municipal Corporation Stadium. But I always enjoyed coming to the beach road. It’s a well planned city and the people are great.

On Vizag stadium The stadium is one of the best in the world. The ground, the outfield and the wicket are excellent.
