Volvo has officially launched its new S60 saloon in India. Prices start from Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The saloon has been launched with both petrol and diesel engine options.

The diesel motor powering the S60 will be the same 205bhp D5 unit doing duty in the XC90 and the S80. The 304bhp petrol motor, however, promises a class-leading performance. The petrol S60 is a lot capable with its 3-litre, turbocharged, inline-six cylinder motor with massive 44.8kgm torque on offer via a six-speed gearbox. It will be a four-wheel drive too and hence is more than a match for the 3.2 V6 A4 Quattro.

The S60 comes laden with safety features that no other saloon can match. It gets Pedestrian Detection system, which brings the car to a halt if it detects an imminent collision with a pedestrian. It will also use the brakes to avoid hitting the car in front. Next on the list is the Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) that alerts the driver if any vehicle is in his blind spot and evaluates the possibility of a lane change.

The S60 gets 16inch wheels with an option of 18-inch wheel available as well. The Volvo comes with a two-year or 60,000km warranty. The D5 diesel gets two variants with prices starting from Rs. 27 lakh for the base variant, going up to Rs. 32 lakh for the top-end variant. The high-performance packed T6 petrol retails at Rs. 34 lakh (prices ex-showroom Delhi).
