The Deccan is famous for its rock formations. At a distance of 35km from LB Nagar, after crossing the famous Ramoji Film City, is Rachakonda, a not-very-well-known forest area. Besides the lush jungles and gorgeous rock formations, this area also houses the famous Rachakonda Fort. For those interested in history, this fort is a visual delight even though it is in shambles. They were among the very few Velama kings, who ruled parts of India. This fort was built by the Recherla Padmanayakas. The Padmanayakas had worked as chiefs of army for the Kakatiyas since the 12th century AD — from Rudra Deva’s time and until the death of Pratapa Rudra. It has a temple dedicated to Sarala Maisamma. There are around 20 ancient temples and other interesting structures constructed by Rachakonda rulers. The temples, the boundary wall on the hill and other structures were built using the followed Cyclopean Masonry style. Driving in the area is a fascinating experience, since the views are amazing. Those who want to be more active can trek around the area and climb up to the fort. That takes around two hours.
How to reach : To reach Rachakonda Fort from Hyderabad, go on the Nagarjunasagar Highway up to Ibrahimpatnam (20 km). Then take the turn to Manchala village (7 km). From there take the road to Tippaiguda (4 km). The fort is just 2 km away.
Note: Since the nearest place to catch a bite is Ramoji Film city, it makes sense to carry water and food along with you. Inside Film City, Sitara is the most popular eatery or else one can settle for the roadside dhabas. Inside film city catch a glimpse of your favourite actor while at shoot.
