‘Tis the season for calendars

With holiday season right around the corner, it’s time to stock up on rescue calendars brought out by animal welfare groups from across the country. Funds raised from the sale of these 2014 calendars will be used to help animals, making them a meaningful gift.

Chennai’s Blue Cross shelter calendar (that comes in desktop and wall-hanging formats) ‘Together we walk’includes handicapped pets that were adopted from their shelter, along with the large-hearted Samaritans who gave them forever homes. The calendars are priced at Rs. 150 (desktop) and Rs. 200 (wall-hanging) and can be customised with company logos for bulk orders that will get discounts. Call 9445362944 to order these calendars.

Chennai Adoption Drive’s desktop calendar titled ‘Fur-ever families’ is an appeal to people to adopt homeless dogs. “All they want is a meal and a warm, safe place to lay their heads,” says co-founder Jennifer Jacob who has chosen 12 of these fairytale endings for the calendar. It is priced at Rs. 250 and can be ordered by calling 8939311148.

Mangalore-based Animal Care Trust (ACT) features heart-warming pictures of puppies, kittens, cattle, monkeys and birds. Some of them are shown cradled in the arms of their rescuers and caretakers. The calendar is priced at Rs. 120 and can be ordered by calling 9845255777 or email sumatara@yahoo.com

Bangalore-based Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (CUPA) — Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (WRRC) has a desktop calendar too. Says Gopi Shankar, trustee — “The calendar celebrates the joy of animals which regain their freedom after traumatic captures and injuries”. These calendars are priced at Rs. 250 and you can order copies by calling 08022947317 or mailing cupasecretary@gmail.com.

Coimbatore-based Humane Animal Society (HAS) also has a desktop calendar with photographs of Indian puppies that found a home this year. “The theme is the celebration of lives that we have been able to touch and the feeling of being blessed to have been able to do that,” says co-founder Mini Vasudevan. The calendars are priced at Rs. 250 and can be ordered by calling 09366127215.

Mumbai-based In Defense of Animals (IDA) has good news for you all through 2014. Their calendar features the positive developments that happened this year for animals. They cost Rs. 150 and can be ordered by emailing info@idaindia.org.

A female brown Indian community dog with a black mouth is missing from near the bus stop opposite to Shastri Bhawan, Nungambakkam near the Scope International office.
