What's to love: The natural charm of the whole campus! The NSS Arts College for Women, established in the year 1975 is located at Tripunithura and is owned and managed by the Nair Service Society. The sprawling campus with a couple of structures that reflect the aesthetics of traditional Kerala architecture adds to the oozing old world charm of the place. The college with around 1,200 students is perhaps the only educational institution in its class that has the highest number of girl students on its roster.
The college offers undergraduate programmes in Commerce, Economics and English and postgraduate programme in Commerce. These apart, NSS College, as it's popularly known, imparts higher secondary classes under the Kerala State Open School scheme in subjects as varied as History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology and Commerce. The college also has short term courses in computer applications.
Ever since its inception, NSS College has been catering to the economically weaker sections in the society and to motivate them the college administration, over the years, has roped in a number of endowments and other awards for students who secure highest marks in various examinations and subjects. “Considering the quality of students that we get, the output can be rated as one of the best,” observes Prof. K. N. Gopalakrishna Kurup, principal of the college.
Regular extra-curricular and co-curricular activities of the college include sports events, quiz programmes etc. However, the D-Day of the campus is considered to be the College Day celebrations and this event sends the campus rocking, much ahead of the event.
What's not to: Even though the college is an all-women territory, the college authorities are liberal enough to allow the students to enjoy their campus life in an uninterrupted manner.
The use of mobile phones, however, is strictly prohibited and the undergraduate students have uniforms to wear with an exception on Wednesdays.
Alternatives: With a sizable population of students and a spacious campus, NSS College has plenty of hangouts to offer. Even though the college store is the fountainhead, the other favourite hotspots include the canteen, the library and computer lab. Numerous trees and cement benches circling them also draw students in hordes at any point of time.
