Summer camps offer activities from rock climbing to baking

The countdown has begun. Holidays will be here again and it is time to zoom in on the fun filled workshops and summer camps that are being offered across the city.

Sports and arts

Regional Sports Centre is organising ‘Summer Coaching Camp’ at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium from April 6. It will involve coaching in tennis, athletics, billiards, badminton, swimming, volley ball, basketball, skating, karate, rock climbing and more. They also have other disciplines like dance, music, craft, painting, calligraphy, public speaking, aero-modelling, robotics, magic and mathemagic etc.

Sporty Beans has planned a 10-day workshop comprising skating, zumba and nine ball sports for children in the age group of 4 - 8. It would be for a duration of 2 hours and would commence from March 30 at Sporty Beans, Panampilly Nagar. Contact: Amee Sampat 8137811777.

Swimming

Casino Hotel is organising swimming classes starting from April 6. There would be two batches in the evening and would be for children over 5years of age. Contact: 0484 – 3011514.

Dance and theatre

Mudra Dance School on Teresa Lane is organising a fun-filled workshop comprising theatre, yoga, dance and public speaking for children in the age group of 5 – 14. The 10-day workshop would comprise classes of 3.5 hours each and the facilitators would be experienced personalities in their own fields. It would be held at their dance school at Teresa Lane and at Rising Stars Studio, Ponnurunni.

Dance

The Floor at Girinagar has planned a fun filled summer workshop for kids in various dance styles like hip hop, salsa, zumba and more. They have short sessions starting in April for teens as well as for kids over 6 years. Contact - 9562036699, 9562037799

Mamangam,the school of dance at Palarivattom has three dance workshops planned for both adults and kids. The first is a classical dance session for moms and kids, the second being contemporary dance and the third, Latin style. The workshops are scheduled for the

Culinary Skills

CGH Earth is organising its third edition of the Kochi Junior Super Chef workshop for kids in the age group of 12 – 17. There would be 8 classes, each of 3-hour duration and would be held at the Casino Hotel, Willingdon Island, by Chef Dominic Joseph. The course content would have fun and yummy recipes covering topics like international cuisine, chocolate making, baking and desserts. There are only limited seats. Manna Cookery School in Mamangalam is doing the ‘Junior Chef’s Summer Baking course’ from April 6 that would include recipes of

Painting, Craft and Music

Indian School of Art in Ravipuram is offering vacation classes for students between the ages of 6 and16. The course comprises oil painting, nib painting, pot painting, Tanjore painting, fabric and glass painting. There are also classes in music (vocal) and instrumental music (veena). Adarsh School of Art on Diwan’s Road has painting classes for children over 4 years of age. The course commencing in April offers sessions in oil painting, water colour, acrylic, Tanjore painting, charcoal drawing and more. Contact Vijayan – 0484-2355481

Western music

Virtuosomusic at Panampilly Nagar has classes for western music and instrumental music like keyboard, piano, drums and guitar. There would be 24 sessions each of 2-hour duration. The course commences in April for children over 8 years of age. Contact Jasmine – 0484 4050888.

Summer Camp

TIME Kids is organising a summer camp for kids in the age group of 1.5 – 8 years. According to the age, there would be different groups and activities. The highlight being that the entire session is theme-based with a new theme every week. Activities like role play, games, music, dance, cooking, craft and general knowledge sessions would be held based on the theme following which there would be a review. There would also be an academic-based course for the kindergarten children that would help improve their skills in maths and communication. Contact Vimal V - 9946557557.

Euro Kids , Padivattom, has an action packed summer camp planned for children between 2-10 years of age. The different groups based on age are named as wanderers, discoverers and explorers. They would have activities involving multiple intelligence, painting, music, dance, art and craft, games, cooking, etiquette, simple experiments and fun themes.

Kerala Museum has opened registrations for regular classes at the Music Academy for carnatic music, keyboard violin mridangam and flute. The traditional yoga class offers karate and abacus courses. The Dance Academy offers classes in mohiniyattom, kuchipudi and bharatanatyam. The fine arts class will include drawing and clay modelling.

Rajagiri Public School organises ‘Summer Sabbatical-2015’ at the indoor stadium of Rajagiri Sports and Cultural Centre on the Rajagiri campus, Kalamaserry. The camp, which will be inaugurated on April 7, will offer both sports and arts activities. Specialised courses such as Neuro Linguistic Programme along with stage and screen will be on offer. The camp will be from April 7 to 30 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is open to children from all schools from UKG to class XII. Registration is open till March 25.
