Remy Martin Hip Hop signs up Adhi for an international multi-lingual album
In a development that could give significant boost to independent music in India, Remy Martin Hip Hop has signed up with Hip Hop artiste Adhi (Hip Hop Tamizha), to produce an international multi-lingual album titled Hip Hop Thamizhan.
Announcing the partnership, young Adhi said he was the first Asian to be associated with a label that has earlier worked with noted artistes such as Usher and Jay Z. “The album will have eight songs, including two featuring artistes such as Sol and MC Call from the U.S.”
Three music videos
A total of three music videos will be shot, he said, adding one was already done. Narrating his early experiences as a struggling independent artiste, Adhi hoped this album encouraged more rappers in the country. “There was no support from any quarters when I started out. After this album releases next year, I hope to, with the help of Remy Martin, start the music label Indie Rebels to support independent artistes in our country.”
While he is a known Internet sensation, Adhi, who ruffled quite a few feathers with the lyrics of his first song ‘Club Le Mubb Le’, says that this album will be high on social message. “I sang that song six years ago. Incidentally, I also did a song for the Election Commission for the 2011 election; that didn’t become a hit. The new album will be about our culture and language.”
Though he is getting a lot of offers to act in movies, Adhi says he is no hurry. “I want to create a band of independent artistes here. I don’t want people to misconstrue that I did all this to get into movies. My priority is music.” The album Hip Hop Thamizhan will be released in English, Tamil and Hindi on August 15, 2014.
