With the wedding season setting in soon, the time was apt for the launch of Nandini Bajpai’s Red Turban White Horse . “The inspiration for the book came from one of the events in myfamily where the wedding takes many twists and turns,” Nandini said.
The story revolves around the central character of Mini Kapoor, a teenager, whose mother died when she was seven years old and brought up by her techie father who has started his business and has a tight budget. Mini’s sisters wedding is due and she takes up the responsibility of arranging the big, fat, Indian wedding in the US like her mother would have wanted had she been alive. The band, baaja and baraat are all set until there is a warning for a hurricane in Boston.
The event took place at India Habitat Centre recently and the book was launched by Anuja Chauhan, the bestselling author of The Zoya Factor, and a friend of the author from her college days.
In conversation with Anuja, Nandini said, “The young adult phase is such when a person has fun, challenges and is caught up between two worlds – those of the child and the adult.” She read excerpts from the book, introducing the main characters — Mini, Mini’s father, Vir, and the banker.
The author said the inspiration for such a topic was easy but it took time to complete the process of putting it together. She was very enthusiastic about her release in Delhi because, “Being a Delhiite, every one of us carries a little bit of Delhi with us where ever we go. I have spent my whole life here so it certainly is special for me coming back here,” she said.
The Scholastic book comes for Rs. 350.
