The India Photo Archive Foundation in collaboration with India International Centre hosted a photography exhibition featuring images shot by nine photographers from the country, at India International Centre, New Delhi. The photographs were a part of a collaborative photography project ‘The World of Recycle’ featuring different ways in which urban waste is treated and the people associated with it. The nine photographers are recipients of Neel Dongre Awards for Excellence in Photography. The exhibition curated by Aditya Arya featured photographs by Hyderabad-based Swarat Ghosh, the only photographer to be a part of this group from outside New Delhi. His series of photographs ‘Silent Environmentalist’ was an attempt to understand waste disposal in a growing city like Hyderabad and the plight of rag pickers. Swarat Ghosh met men, women and children from Bholakpur and BK Guda Basti.

The large workforce here makes a living by picking garbage. They often work with their bare hands and some of them sort human hair from the garbage and sell them at Rs. 30 per kg.
