If as Mark Twain pointed out “Clothes make the man”, it makes the woman too! Ever envied those yummy mummies from filmdom (and some in your neighbourhood) who still look as stylish and as suave as they did before they got married? Have you always wondered what it takes to look fabulous despite “settling down”? Then here’s some good news for you.
Lifestyle channel TLC is all set to launch Your Style in His Hands , a four-part series hosted by model and resident style expert Lisa Snowdon, which features couples whose relationships are suffering due to the ladies’ lack of confidence in their tired, worn and ill-fitting wardrobes.
In a telephonic interview, Lisa says of her experience as fashion guide: “Given my love for fashion, it was a really interesting project for me. I’m nosy too. But mostly because of the confluence of some novel ideas, objectives and issues that range from lifestyle, boosting a woman’s confidence, giving her a makeover, and bringing love back into marriages, I wanted to be a part of this assignment. It feels good to be a catalyst.”
How well did the men do? Lisa quips: “As expected, they initially had no clue about their wives. The shoes they picked up were three to four sizes bigger. They had no idea about their wives’ vital statistics and as expected, they bought really sexy dresses and super high heels. They didn’t realise they would need to be practical about their choices until of course I shopped with them the second time around. By the end of each show though, the men were actually making me proud with their newly acquired fashion sensibilities.”
Ask her what are some of the most common mistakes married women make when it comes to their wardrobe, and Lisa responds: “People invariably get too comfortable in a relationship that they often begin to neglect how they look. They resort to wearing really baggy clothes and it’s always more about comfort clothing than anything else. The show is not really putting the onus on fashion but aims to help women dress comfortably and practically.” As expected, we’re keen to know the rate of success of her endeavour. “The men actually got back to me after the show and shared their experience of initially being overwhelmed by the daunting task of having to shop for their wives but also expressed their gratitude for how it was just the beginning in their relationship. I couldn’t be happier,” Lisa concludes.
