STUNNING From khadi to ikkat to traditional silks, there’s a whole range.

House of Taamara (Lotus) is in HAL 2nd Stage. The store is so stylishly done that it looks more like an art gallery than a sari store. With lovely dark, brown wood used for shelves, racks, and large mirrors along with a lovely display of traditional lamps, bowls and hanging bells, the place is done in only browns and white. Amidst these the saris in the shades of dark green, maroon and red stand out.

“We have textiles from all over,” says Madhavi Rongala, who started the store with Lakshmi Jyothsna Rongala.

As she takes us around the store she explains: “We have Mangalgiri saris with thin borders, ikkat, cottons and chiffons. For those who like to look at something different they can pick up ikkat saris with Shibori work on them. Most of the designs are created by us by working with the craftspeople,” explains Madhavi.

This store offers a wide range of saris even for young women. There is a bright range of designer saris in vivid hues, which come with crinkled pallus that can just be draped on easily. Another section offers you a vast range of running material that you can mix and match as blouse pieces for your saris. Then there is a section that offers you a khadi collection by Metaphor Racha. “Saris are in vogue. In spite of the fast-paced life, we have a huge clientele of women from mid 20s to late 70s. The good thing about the khadi range is that they can be hand washed and you can starch them at home if you want to.”

Kanjeevarams and light silk saris along with handloom cottons and silks from Andhra are also there. They all come with designer blouse pieces. If you like the Kerala saris with the traditional golden border, then House of Taamara offers you a range that comes with a slight twist. They come with different borders and prints but in the same off-white and gold options.

If you are the kind who prefers to even pick up your blouse off the shelf then this place offers you a huge range of designer blouses in cottons and silks. They come in the sizes from 32 to 42 and “need minor alterations”. The cotton saris start at Rs. 850.

House Of Taamara, on 12th Main, HAL 2nd Stage, is a place for those crazy about the six-yards. The store is open from 11 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. The store can be contacted on 41607288.
