SnG Comedy’s latest web series ‘What if… social media in real life’ doesn’t merely show the hilarious side of social networking sites flirting with each other, but also cracks us up on a live group chat enactment on whatsapp. Most of us wouldn’t dare disagree with their take. Haven’t we all been parts of groups that are either fun or creepy?

It probably starts after college, when everybody gets scattered and goes their own way until some ‘enthu social media cutlet’ decides to start a group. Such groups can be fun if they consist of friends you really liked to hang out with, share secrets and comment on others without being judged. This can be one group where someone or the other is forever there to listen, reply, laugh or at times even solve the biggest puzzle — to drink or not to drink! This is one group which can make you spend hours on silly, pointless discussions on whether the dress game on FB was actually green or blue. This is the fun group where everything from a dress dilemma to bad sex can be solved instantly without being judged.

But not all groups are so much fun. For instance:

Bigger vVague school group : This is a group that has classmates who you never spoke with. This could also have friends who judge you on your marital status or the fact that one is a homemaker/ career person and the age at which one had kids or even the number of kids. It’s a page one feels obliged to join. But it isn’t so bad until someone decides on a ‘mothers/fathers only’ reunion. That’s when some of us would begin searching for the exit button.

College groups : Yet another vague group with some people whose names, and even faces. don’t jog your memory. So, the quicker the exit, the lower the stress. Oh, and this is a group where at least one faceless guy will enquire on a girl’s marital status.

Announcement groups: We have no idea what the group administrator is thinking when he/she decides to start a group to make an announcement. This group can be as ‘whatever’ as ‘spare me please’. This is where people you avoided giving your personal number to, will quickly access and save it and make sure to send you a creepy ‘hi’ message. Announcements can be silly as ‘please visit my website.’

Family group : Its 'awww…' until you are questioned about your boyfriend/girlfriend or about your wedding. A nice way to bond but one has to be careful with the kind of jokes being shared. This group will have the maximum number of cute family photos shared by everyone from across different places. And if a new baby is born, it is all about cooing and gushing over the baby and those ubiquitous parenting tips.

Fitness groups : If you are a dedicated fitness person the updates could be from your side, or you could be constantly getting motivated by their updates. However, if you aren’t the dedicated-motivated type, you'll probably be making a face at every update that is shared. For eg: ‘Just returned from my awesome morning 10 km run.’

Building/society group : The only reason you are here is to report problems to enthusiastic problem solvers. Rest of the time, you would have probably ignored/muted this group.

Group from a group : No one would deny being part of one such group which is a subset of a larger group. This small group is created to share personal info with, or whine and complain about a few members, with the ones you know are on the same page as you.
