Bagging a dream job has always been a delicate mix of a sound academic base backed by adequate industry exposure. That’s exactly the aim behind St. Francis College for Women’s first of a kind fortnight-long course for aspirant Radio Jockeys, scheduled to begin next week.
“For the first time in our college, we shall be welcoming women from all corners, regardless of age or qualification. This will spread enough awareness about a trend that’s waiting to catch up for the times to come,” says K. Anita, Head of Department, Mass Communication.
With the number of private FM stations scheduled to rise on the national scale, the move is only expected to earn more credibility. “The participants in the course will be trained by eminent RJs working for regional stations. We’ve already finalised a couple of them — RJ Shiv from Radio City 91.1 FM besides RJ Vamsi for the initial sessions,” she says with a tinge of excitement.
In the past, the college went on to organise a similar photography course, which was however restricted to the students as part of their academic schedule. “This time though, we decided to open up for our desire to tap into lesser known arenas and to a wider student base,” adds Anita.
The responses for the course have fittingly commenced on a positive note in and beyond the college premises. Anjana, a student paying witness to it says, “There’s been a lot of talk around radio being a dying profession and the other media gradually enveloping it. The relevance though still exists for people who want to be heard and yet not be seen. With the short duration of the certificate course, it doesn’t need people compromising on their daily schedules for long either. We’re all looking forward to it.”
Interested participants can register for the course by paying Rs. 3000 through the college challan at St. Francis College for Women, Begumpet, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. by July 31. The certificate course commencing on August 3 will go on till August 19 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
