Gemini Film Circuit and Aum Productions' “Mayakkam Enna” , starring Dhanush and Richa Gangopadhyay in the lead, is expected to hit the screens this Deepavali.

With Selvaraghavan at the helm, the film has Ramji as the cameraman and G. V. Prakash Kumar as the music composer.

Selvaraghavan's wife Gitanjali is the executive producer. The others in the cast are Pooja, Sundar, Mathivaanan, Sony and Shilpy.

Back together

After “Thulluvatho Ilamai”, “Kaadhal Kondein” and “Pudhupettai” , the brothers are coming together once again for “Mayakkam Enna”. The movie was shot in Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore and other places in Tamil Nadu.

Besides directing the film, Selvaraghavan has penned two songs and Dhanush has joined him in writing a few.

At an event recently organised to promote the film, Selvaraghavan said the story is about Gen Next. “It is not entirely a love story, but there will be romance in it. The film will have all the ingredients of an entertainer. I'm not saying it's going to be different, but I want to give the audience the satisfaction of having watched a good film.”

About the choice of Dhanush, the director said, “I didn't choose him because he's my brother; but because he is an actor of substance. His growth has been phenomenal. As the character needs an actor like him, I have cast him.”

What made Selvaraghavan write the lyrics for the film? He said, “Usually directors are familiar with the storyline of their films and I know director Mani Ratnam too used to write the pallavi of songs in his films. Dhanush helped me with two of the numbers and he wrote one on his own. When people came to know about my writing they started asking me whether I would venture into other departments of filmmaking. I don't think I will do that as of now.”

Music director G. V. Prakash Kumar said he was happy with the music and the film. “I'm confident people will like it.”

Delighted about acting in his brother's film after a gap, Dhanush said, “He made me act in films and I feel thrilled with my role in ‘Mayakkam Enna'. All his films are different, and I would like to do more under his direction as I will learn something new every time. I think this film will be a turning point for me and Richa.”

Richa said, “Acting with a national award winner like Dhanush is a privilege. He helped me with the nitty-gritty of acting and told me how to perform in some of the scenes.”

Impressive songs

The audio of “Mayakkam Enna” was released recently. The best piece is ‘Pirai Thedum', a duet by Saindhavi and G.V. Prakash Kumar. The mass number ‘Voda Voda Voda' is sung by Dhanush. He's also written the song along with brother Selvaraghavan. ‘Kaadhal Yen Kaadhal', sung by Dhanush, and written by him along with Selvaragavan, makes an impact. ‘Ennenna Seidhom Ingae' is written by the director himself and sung by Harish Ragavendra. The album includes theme music too.
