Nikki Galrani is better known to Telugu movie buffs as actor Sanjjanaa’s sister, but within a span of a year, she has become a popular face in her own right. The actor, who has worked in all South languages, will be seen next in the Telugu film Krishnashtami .
Did she always plan to be an actor? “I have always gone with the flow and never planned anything. I accepted roles in movies while I was still in college studying fashion, but was never sure if that’s what I wanted to do. Around the same time, I did about 40 to 50 commercials as well," she says.
An award for a Malayalam movie was a big motivating factor for Nikki. She has done five Malayalam movies and is quite comfortable with that territory. She adds, “It was just a span of one year in which my career took off in a quick way. When producer Dil Raju said he wanted to have me on board for Krishnashtami , a Sunil-starrer, I thought it was nice. I did Malupu at the start of my career which was a bi-lingual with Aadhi Pinisetty and it is going to be released soon. I did get a lot of Telugu offers before and nothing excited me like this. Each movie in my career is different — be it character or stories. I never differentiated my films based on language, but took it up on the basis of the script.”
She says, “I keep shuttling between Kerala and Chennai and now Hyderabad has been added to the list. I feel at home in Chennai and it remains my second home because it is mum’s hometown.”
Nikki is wise enough to say, “I am aware that an actor’s shelf life is short but I am blessed and I still have seven films in my kitty right now.”
