The camera captures microphones hanging on a speaker waiting for the right moment to be picked up for sound bytes.
Despite an ever increasing number of television channels in the country, each looking for sound bytes from across the nation – be it in the news or entertainment segment – the average time spent on TV in India is still low. According to the FICCI- KPMG Indian Media and Entertainment Industry Report 2011, it is two hours in a non metro market and three hours in a big metro market. This is because though smaller towns have the capability and willingness to watch TV, the supply of power is an issue.
In the US, in contrast, the average time spent on TV is close to five hours in spite of fragmented viewing. In Asian countries like Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia the average time spent watching television is higher than in India.
