Pitch Four brings together lead vocalists of Chennai band Subject To Change Anjana Raghavan and Anisha Verghese, and musician-guitarist Vedanth Bharadwaj and percussionist Alfie (Salwin Alfred). An interesting mix of artistes, the group came about when Vivanta by Taj Connemara approached the girls with an idea — one that instantly drew them in. “Pitch Four is a new band for a new concept, so ‘pitching’ in that sense,” explains Anjana.
Coming together
The group will perform as part of Hollaback! Fridays , an event run by the Chennai branch of Hollaback! and hosted by the non-profit organisation Prajnya Trust. It allows local talent to raise their voice against an important issue — street sexual harassment and gender violence.
Says Anjana, “I want to voice my opinion on gender and women issues. Through the Hollaback! Chennai campaign, Anisha and I look to sending the message that we must fight any kind of harassment — physical or verbal, and assert our right to use public spaces freely and safely. And what better way to do so than with music?”
Swarna Rajagopalan, managing trustee of Prajnya, says, “Lack of safety in public spaces is a problem that women face…We want to make the point that we need not accept harassment, and also encourage those who experience street harassment to talk about it openly.”
Vivanta by Taj Connemara will share a percentage of every bill from Hollaback! Fridays with Prajnya Trust.
