Women peeling prawns for sales.

The camera captures women from the fishing industry performing the arduous task of peeling prawns and getting them ready for the market. Sassoon Docks in South Mumbai, off Cuffe Parade, sports a full fledged fish market where every morning at the crack of dawn an auction of the day’s catch takes place. Fishing boats of all sizes arrive with their catch from the sea, which is sold at wholesale prices. Women, as in other industries, here too do the most difficult task of shelling, peeling and cleaning.

Sassoon Docks was built on reclaimed land and completed in 1905.
