Naanal Nanbargal and Iragugal environmental groups have joined hands to conduct a study of bird life and bio-diversity in different pockets of Madurai district. The study will document various species of birds, reptiles and mammals in and around water tanks, villages, agriculture fields and forest patches in the district. The study will be conducted over the next six months till the end of March in coordination with the district administration, forest department and the Public Works department.

Participants in the study will include Life science professors, botanists, Bird watchers, environmentalists, photographers, volunteers, students and public. Small teams consisting of an ornithologist, zoologist, botanist and volunteers will be covering different zones of the district. The details collected at the end will be submitted to the government. The results will be published as a book/CD or exhibited in public. Interested volunteers may contact 9843136786 or 8608266088 to take part in the study.
