The India for Animals (IFA) Conference is an annual event that brings together animal people from across the country for a weekend of learning and exchange of ideas on how to make the world a better place for our furry (and feathered) friends.
Open to people from all walks of life — from those who want to find out how to stop cruelty to pets, to those who are focused on dog population control, or just those who have an interest in animals and are looking to make friends in the field — the experience promises to be an educational one for experts and first-timers alike. According to the official website for IFA, the event orients attendees ‘on all major areas of animal protection work in India’ and gives the audience a chance to interact with international leaders in the animal welfare movement. Special sessions on farm animal welfare, animal experimentation and veganism are part of the event.
Ravichandra Kadiyala, an IT professional and member of the animal welfare group ‘Karunya’ is attending the conference for the first time this year with his colleagues — “I want to promote animal welfare in the corporate world as a part of their CSR activities,” he says. “We have succeeded in doing this in my organisation and are looking to replicate it in other companies as well. I looked at the IFA topics and it sounded like a good learning experience to me”.
The conference will also give out awards to people who have contributed to the Indian animal protection movement and will honour volunteers, policy makers and campaigners who are dedicated to the cause.
Scheduled to be held from November 16 to 18 in Panjim, Goa, the programme is organised by FIAPO (Federation for Indian Animal Protection Organisations) and the registration fee is Rs. 1,500. The last date for registeration is Aug 31. For details, visit www.fiapo.org/ifa12.php or email Contactifa@fiapo.org for further information.
