The 2011 Tamil film Ko , had a song featuring many celebrities from Kollywood shaking a leg. One of them was singer Krish, who appeared on screen for just a few seconds.

That frame caught the attention of producer A.S. Ibrahim Rowther, who was looking for a hero for the Thambi Syed Ibrahim-directed Puriyadha Aanandham Pudhidhaga Aarambam (PAPA) . And today, Krish, popular for his rendition of hit Tamil songs, debuts in Kollywood as an actor.

However, for Krish, this was always on the cards. Growing up in the U.S. many years ago, he had dreams of becoming an actor — he did a course from the New York Film Academy. Armed with that, he came to Chennai, with ideas of making it large on the big screen. But life had other plans for him.

A friend heard him sing, and liked it, and introduced him to music composer Harris Jayaraj. “It was like a new door opening for me,” recalls Krish, “I gladly took up the opportunity.” His musical journey continued, with songs for various film composers, but the desire to act lingered. With PAPA , a love story, his wish came true. Did he have any apprehensions facing the camera? “Not at all,” he says, “I’m a performer and love entertaining people, as a singer. When I can do that, why should I be afraid of facing the camera?”

His other passion, music, isn’t taking a backseat though. His six-track musical album, titled Forever in Love , releases today. “Music composer Vijay Ebenezer and I started working on the tracks two years ago,” he reveals, “It all fell in place. I’ve big hopes on the ‘Maaya’ song in this album. The music videos, one of which features actress Nikesha Patel, have come out really well too.”
