Here’s an opportunity for school students to showcase their hidden talents in painting and art by signing up for "Shri Kuppuram Memorial Creative Art Contest".

The Turning Point book shop is conducting the event in the memory of its founder Kuppuram. The competition will be for primary and middle levels. Drawing contest for KG kids has no specific theme while students from Class I and II should draw on ‘Protect mother nature’ and for students of class III to V, the topic is ‘My dreams for a greener future.’

‘Waste-to-wealth’ contest for middle school children invites innovatively designed products made out of scrap material. Students from class VI to VIII have no specific theme while children of class IX and X should base it on “Recycling (Old clothes, carpet and e-waste)”. Preethy, the daughter of Kuppuram and presently the Manager of Turning Point, says, “My father started his career in a book shop and dedicated his whole life for the love of reading. He was the first individual to open a full-fledged book shop in town. He always loved young visitors to the shop and used to help them find their favourite books.”

“Organized for the first time, we expect a minimum of 15 schools and about 600 entries,” says Preethy. “Depending on the response, we may make it a regular event. We want to promote book reading habit among children as these days many kids are internet driven.” She also adds that Turning Point will soon be conducting regular workshops on various creative art forms for children.

All the paintings and art-from-waste entries will be judged by a panel of judges and also through public voting. The products and paintings will be put on display till December 2, 2012 at Turning Point’s ‘Best books exhibition’ underway at Vijay Mahal, K.K. Nagar. The contests will also be held at the same venue on November 17 (Drawing) and November 18 (Waste to Wealth).

The selected entries will be awarded gift vouchers. Registration for both Drawing and Waste to Wealth is free and closes on Novemeber 10, 2012. Interested candidates and institutions may contact Turning Point at 0452-2347398 or 9940489318 for registrations. Completed registration forms should be emailed to turningpointbooks@gmail.com
