Two big names from the Tamil and Malayalam industries will come together for a Tamil film — Jilla, directed by first-timer Nesan, will feature actors Vijay and Mohanlal. The lead also includes Kajal Agarwal, and the film is produced by Super Good Films. Meanwhile, actor Vijay as well as A.R. Murugadoss are thrilled — their film Thuppakki has crossed the Rs. 100-crore mark. Murugadoss is the only director to have touched the magic figure in both Hindi and Tamil (Gajini in Hindi).
Mirroring reality
A lot of directors believe films must reflect reality. In keeping with that, Don Goutham directed RDX, which revolved around the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Now, he’s shooting Freedom, a film based on the recent brutal gang rape of a 23-year-old Delhi student. The film features a student named Re. While the music is by Gulam Ali from Pakistan, the re-recording is by ‘Kolaveri’ boy Anirudh. Amitabh Bachchan’s poem on the incident is said to have been used in the film’s climax. The film is to be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi this month end.
Many for the record
Actor-director Babu Ganesh may have a record of sorts in his hands. In his latest film Kaattu Pura and in five of his previous films, he has handled as many as 14 aspects related to filmmaking — story, screenplay, dialogue, lyrics, music, singing, editing, director of photography, acting, special effects, direction, production, choreography for a song and a stunt sequence. Of the 11 films he has made so far, he has worked on at least nine aspects of filmmaking in five other films. Interestingly, Kaattu Pura features his son Rishikanth. The actor says, “I have worked under directors Bharathiraja, Singitham Srinivasa Rao and Madhu from Malayalam. I’ve been able to achieve what I have only because of the support of film lovers.”
Being different
The film Azhagan Azhagi is said to have two ‘interesting’ songs. The film’s director says, “In one song, we have showcased a differently abled girl performing all the chores using just her legs, an MGR-look-alike and a grand old man aged 100. In another, whistling has been used as a predominant element.” The film’s music is by Kannan.
