Twenty-eight years is a long period for anyone in the film industry to re-surface. But, it is the confidence of succeeding that has brought M. Jayakumar back to the silver screen with Jamai . “After Paadum Vaanambadi , I went into a self-imposed exile from the industry, though I did dabble in film distribution for a while,” says Jayaram. But, you cannot keep a creative man down for long and Jayakumar started working on a script which he eventually decided to produce and direct. “I have cast Navin and Vyjayanti in the lead roles in Jamai which is a musical love story. While the first half focuses on college life, the second half is high on family drama. Dheena has composed nine melodious songs. Lyricist Vaalee has written five songs, probably his last.” Jamai has been given a ‘U’ certificate and is getting ready for a mid-March release.
Ilaiyaraja’s music, the highlight of Un Samayal Arayil
Prakash Raj has taken on a mammoth task this time — the remake of the Malayalam hit, Salt N’ Pepper, in three languages. But he is tackling it without much difficulty. “ Un Samayal Arayil is not just a remake. I have taken the soul of the original and adapted it differently for each of the three languages — Tamil, Telugu and Kannada,” says director Prakash who also plays the lead along with Sneha in all three. “And, the best part is the music by Ilaiyaraja who has done the work individually for each version. He has completed the talkie portions for all the three languages and is already into post-production after which the re-recording will start. “I hope to release the audio by March end and will look at an early May release, God willing!” says Prakash.
