Lyricist Parvathy

Lyricist Parvathy

Parvathy, a student of Ethiraj College, enters the film industry as a lyricist with the song ‘Nakula Nakula’ in director Arivazhagan’s Vallinam. And, it all began with the song ‘Girl Friend’ in the film Boys! The lyricist says, “My friend and I were talking about how we get to hear songs only from a male point of view. So, I replaced the original lines with ‘Adangaadha Aaradi Uyarathil Oru Boy Friend Venum’.” Apparently, it gained popularity in the college, and “even those who met me for the first time would want to listen to my lyrics”.

Inspired, Parvathy, who has authored two books with collections of her poems, wanted to be a lyricist and approached directors. “Directors would appreciate my work and style, and yet wouldn’t trust me with the job.” The disappointment ended when she met Arivazhagan. What has been the response to her lyrics? “The entire team liked the song. I was told that my lines were appreciated and even tweeted!” says Parvathy, who has already written her second song in Anis’ Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah, which has music by Gibran.

Meanwhile, Arivazhagan, whose Vallinam comes four years after his thriller debut Eeram, says, “Everyone asked me if I was going to do a supernatural thriller again. Therefore, I wanted do a film from a completely different genre. Hence, I decided to do the sports movie Vallinam. Normally, films in the sports genre always showcased rivalry between two teams playing the same sport. In Vallinam, we have focussed on the rivalry between basketball and cricket. The film reflects the Indian society’s fixation with one particular sport.”

Sports movie with a difference

After making a hugely successful super natural thriller Eeram, Director Arivazhagan was expected to go on a juggernaut. Nobody expected that the director would take four year to release his second directorial venture, Vallinam. The director who spoke after screening the trailer exclusively to the press said, “Everyone asked me if I was going to do a supernatural thriller again. Therefore, I wanted do a film that belongs to a completely different genre. Hence, I decided to do a sports movie.” Arivazhagan also insisted that Vallinam will not be similar to the other sports films that Tamil Cinema has seen so far, “If you see films that belong to the sports genre, there would always be rivalry between two teams playing the same sport. In Vallinam, we have focussed on the rivalry between basketball and cricket. The film reflects the Indian society’s fixation with one particular sport over others.”
