Since the advent of multiplexes and multi-screen theatres, their films hitting the 100-day mark has been a not-so-easy-to-realise dream for filmmakers. So, when it does, it becomes a reason to cheer about. And that’s what has delighted A.R. Murugadoss — his film Thuppakki has seen 100 days at the cinemas. Produced by Kalaipuli Thanu, the film has actor Vijay in the lead. Vijay says, “I’m happy it has reached this milestone. It works wonders for the technicians too who have toiled for the film; I’m happy for them.” Producer Kalaipuli Thanu says, “It is not just my success, it’s the team’s success.”
Wearing many hats
Directors turning to production is not new. The latest to join this bandwagon is Mysskin, who has launched his own production house Lone Wolf Productions. The first film he is to direct under the banner is Onaayum Aatukuttiyum. The film will have new faces, and the lead is played by Sree, who has acted in Balaji Sakthivel’s Vazhakku En 18/9. The young actor is jubilant at having bagged the role. So, any instructions from the director? “He has asked me to read more, and that is what I am doing now,” says Sree.
Guess who has joined the list of highly paid singers? Actor Simbu aka STR! Since his song in Kadhal Virus for A.R. Rahman, STR has sung a number of songs in films. And now, looks like he is one of the most sought-after singers. Most recently, he has lent his voice for a song in the film Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga. The actor says, “After writing the lyrics and singing my own songs in Poda Podi and the Love Anthem, my friends asked me to render songs in their films. When my friends approach me I can’t refuse; in fact, I’m happy to do it for them.”
