V.Venu, former secretary of the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, and currently Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, is a veteran when it comes to theatre.
Dr. Venu, who is also the Director General, National Museum, is now making his debut in the tinsel town, with Ayaal, directed by Suresh Unnithan.
Venu plays a Pravarthiyar Thirumeni (equivalent to present-day village officer) in the film that is set in Kuttanad during the mid 50s. It is about a pulluvan (played by Lal) who is ascribed divinity by the people. “I took up the role only because of K. Ampady (a 2002 batch civil service officer, who has written the story, screenplay and dialogue of the film). It is a small role, but is very crucial for the narrative,” says Venu, who plays Lena’s husband in the movie.
He is at present associated with Abhinaya theatre group as part of its travelling theatre festival. He is acting in Sakharam Binder, one of the four plays staged at the fete.
Venu, who has also got a clean-shaven look for the movie, says: “I think people have not yet recognised me!” The movie is slated to release on May 30.
