The Hussain Sagar was built in 1562, but was reborn, so to say, in 1964 when sail boats in their vibrant colours infused life into what was until then just a historic lake. Since then the EME Sailing Association (EMESA) has kept it alive by organizing various sailing events besides promoting the causefor a clean lake and its clean surroundings.

In an endeavour to popularise the sport and groom budding sailors for the most famous championship of the year – the Hyderabad Sailing Week-- the ‘Yachting Association of India (YAI) Training cum Summer Coaching Camp’ was organized at the EME Sailing club, Hussain Sagar last week.

The event saw fine performances from 61 sailors in various age groups. Going by the calibre of the instructors at the camp, 11 Sailors from Kerala state also attended the course. Training was imparted in the Laser, Enterprise, Optimist , 420 and Hobie Cat classes of boats.

Expanding the training aspect further, ‘the first power boat handler coaching camp’ was also conducted during this period. The power boat camp alone had 28 entries. Many motor boat operators were trained by the special team of the YAI’s Training Division. Ten motor boat operators of Telangana Tourism also qualified as ‘power boat handlers.’ Candidates were given YAI certificates bearing the stamp of the Indian Olympic Association, International Sailing Federation and the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs based on their performance. ‘Life is like sailing. You can use any wind to go in any direction. I hope the budding sailors harness the right winds to achieve success in life,” said the Laser Class Association of India (LCAI) Honorary Secretary Lt. Col. Bhuwan Khare at the valedictory function.
