Nattika Beach Ayurveda Resort

Thrissur

USP: Where the sky, sea, sand and surf meet

I still have sand in my shoes…

And the memory of being transposed to a world so distant from the everyday. A sudden sense of dimension seizes me as I stand on the vast expanse of a golden beach. Bold, circular waves rush to my waiting feet, the foam scattering around only to gather again in happy circles. It's quiet except for the sounds of the sea until the sudden, sharp yell of a child playing among the casuarina trees brings me back to the real world.

The Nattika Beach Resort near Thrissur is a two-hour drive from Kochi. I honk my way to the resort and once there almost immediately forget the busy road that brought me there. Serenity takes over and warm, gracious staff greets me with refreshing tender coconut. I take a leisurely walk around the nine-acre property, managed and manicured beautifully. Twenty-four villas in Kerala style, with all modern amenities, dot the landscape. A large, luxurious swimming pool is as inviting as the beach.

The restaurant serves buffet and a la carte fare. An Ayurvedic resort, Nattika has in-house doctors and rooms for treatment and serves special diets to go with them. A yoga hall with an instructor is open to enthusiasts. A small library catering to foreign guests has books in Spanish, German, French and Russian. It's a perfect place for a quiet peaceful read.

The cottage veranda with its planter's chair invites me to rest awhile. I look at the sea beyond, all the while, hearing it. Some rooms come with open-air baths.

The Ayurveda centre with its traditional fragrance lends a healing touch to holidayers. Tranquillity is found in every nook. But it is the beach, the sea, the surf, the sand and the sky at Nattika that enthrals leaving me with memories and of course, the sand in my shoes.
