The details of the murder of Anni Ninna Dewani née Hindocha, a Swede of Indian origin on her honeymoon in South Africa, reads like a potboiler. The husband, Shireen Dewani was accused of paying people to kill his wife. Three people were convicted in the case and though Shireen was extradited from the UK to South Africa and faced trial, he was acquitted of all charges.

Four years after the tragedy that changed his life, Anni’s father, Vinod Hindocha has written a book, Anni: A Father’s Tale that detailed his journey of coming to terms with his youngest daughter’s murder and the trial.

At the launch of the book, Anni’s brother talked about his sister and the manner in which his family dealt with the tragedy. He said, “She was full of life and energy. It was meant to be one of the most happiest moments of her life. We had to deal with her death and the fact that her husband was the main accused in the case. The verdict and the court case went against us and it is sad that Shireen walked free. As a family, we are still dealing with the ramifications of the case.”

Stand up comic Ruby Chakravorthy read out passages from the book and talked about the need to ensure that such crimes never go unpunished.
