Fitness author Namita Jain’s latest book, Post-Baby Bounce , focuses on new mothers and the aspects of wellness they should take care of. Excerpts from an e-mail interview:
What prompted you to writePost-Baby Bounce?
Post-Baby Bounce is a sequel to Fit Pregnancy . I meet several moms who come to me with their concerns of getting back in shape. Even under normal circumstances, keeping fit is a tricky proposition. And when you have just delivered and have a baby to look after, it becomes all the more challenging. There are many myths and concerns that a new mother is faced with. To address this, and also provide solutions to the queries, I decided to write the book.
What is the essence of the book and what was your aim in writing it?
It is a wellness handbook for new moms as they have unique health concerns which need to be addressed. No matter how much you’ve looked forward to being a mother, there will always be moments when you feel you aren’t prepared enough for the responsibility. Many new mothers also find themselves caught in a dilemma: they want to spend every waking moment with the baby, but they are already thinking up ways to regain their lost figure. Post-Baby Bounce understands this dilemma and promises to help you resolve it to your satisfaction, by suggesting ways in which you can devote time to yourself without feeling as if you are cheating on your baby.
How is it different from your previous book on pregnancy?
This book is for mothers who have just delivered. Fit Pregnancy dealt with the concerns during pregnancy. Post-Baby Bounce is divided into 6 sections: Just Delivered, Breastfeeding and Lactation, Diet, Exercise, Common Concerns and Wellbeing.
Five top tips from your book
- Stay hydrated. Drink 2 to 3 litres of water daily.
- Eat wise. Healthy foods needn’t be boring.
