Indie filmmaker Sandeep Mohan is gearing up for the online release of his Hola Venky! on April 2 across 110 countries.
In a press statement, he recalled the shooting days, “When I was working as an assistant director to Sanjay Bhansali on Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam , the set had hundreds of people. When I made Hola Venky! , there were just three people – the camera person, the sound recordist and me. While in Hum Dil …, shooting a song was very expensive, I’ve made my entire feature film within a Rs. 10-lakh budget. It’s truly a world of extremes.”
The film is unique because the director chose to introduce the film to audiences at various cafes, bars, restaurants, art galleries, office spaces, homes, church halls and virtually any alternative space that was available. These screenings have been done in India, the U.S. and Singapore.
Starring Roger Narayan and Sonia Balcazar, Hola Venky! is a comic drama that narrates the story of a middle-aged Indian techie and his challenging journey that takes him from Matunga in Mumbai to Bay Area in San Francisco.
