Fans of the famous 80s family sitcom, Full House , are an excited lot with Netflix officially announcing a series tied Fuller House .
Much like how the original show started off with the father of the family (Danny Tanner) becoming a recent widower, the spin-off too makes for an interesting tale with his daughter (DJ) becoming a widow and having her sister and best friend moving in to help her raise the children. This reunion special will feature Candance Cameron-Bure as DJ, Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie, and Andrea Barber as Kimmy.
Social media has been buzzing with Full House excitement, with even the cast tweeting about this joyous development. Fans in the city, who have grown up watching the show (and even had a crush on Uncle Jesse in their teenage years), cannot wait to watch their childhood heroes back on screen. But today, with a range of TV shows available, will Fuller House stand the test of time? “ Game of Thrones, Sherlock, Daredevil, House of Cards and Modern Family are the shows ruling the roost on TV today. It will be interesting to see if the Full House spin-off will be successful among all these shows as their themes are very different.
For me, the spin-off is going to bring back a rush of nostalgia,” says Karn, a 28-year-old engineer who grew up watching the show.
Interestingly, though the show was aired way back in 1987, almost 25 years ago, it has struck a chord with a lot of youngsters from this generation and is popular even today. "I was just browsing through a list of TV shows online and I started watching the first episode of Full House after reading the synopsis. That was enough to get me hooked. The clean, hilarious family humour makes it click, and television is badly in need of a wholesome family show now anyway,” states Priyanka Parthasarthi, an 18-year-old student of MOP Vaishnav College.
Antara Chakraborthy, a journalism student and a huge fan of the show, has high expectations for the reunion special. “When the show ended, I always wondered about what happened to the kids and used to paint their lives in my heads, so it’s amazing that we can actually get to see how they turned out.”
