Masterchef India host Kunal Kapur loves to cook to music
If it had not have been for MasterChef, Kunal Kapur may have settled to being head chef at a restaurant. After dabbling in the popular television show, the chef has numerous paths to thread on.
Kunal Kapur was in the city for a cooking workshop with Godrej Nature’s Basket when he talked about his adventure with food.
“I was fascinated when I watched men cooking on Sunday shows on telly. I used observe them.”
His teachers were very impressed with his knowledge of ingredients and Kunal credits this to his long hours of helping in the kitchen. Kunal cleared his entrance exams for Delhi University but never joined. “It was just to prove my father that I can also study. I wasn’t interested in the family profession of banking. I had to gather a lot of courage to convince my father and I am happy that he supported me.”
On his journey with MasterChef, Kunal says he learnt a lot during his experience with Junior Master Chef. “After being among kids, I realised how selfish we adults are. If someone in the competition had not completed his task, the kids would come and help him knowing that they might be disqualified.”
Kunal laments that by being a celebrity chef, a lot of his personal time is compromised but he is happy with the knowledge and experience he gains from meeting people.
Lately Kunal is cooking with music. “There are many tracks for cooking available on the internet. It relaxes your mind and is like your partner in the cooking sessions.” Apart from music, Kunal is also addicted to photography. “I am very fond of taking photos of food,” he says adding that when he is not cooking or taking photos, he spends his time watching movies.
Talking about the increase in use of packaged food these days, Kunal says, “Processed food is actually going to replace fresh food in the next 15 years. Everyone needs to be aware of what they eat.”
