Popular children's show Galli Galli Sim Sim is back in a faster, funnier and furrier avatar to entertain and educate children in a fun way. The Indian adaptation of the international series Sesame Street, the show focuses on making learning fun through attractive muppets like Chamki, Googly, and Boombah. In its fourth season, the show introduces two new muppets, Toto and Grover, who will travel all over the world and amuse the audience with their antics. They will take the show outside the galli , helping children explore the world around.
With exciting music videos and new sections like ‘Elmo's World', where a new word is introduced every day, the show is sure to make its way to the hearts of children once again.
“Children acquire lifelong habits, which are generally formulated in their childhood. The social development indicators of health, hygiene and nutrition are primary goals that need to be addressed in a country like ours. Galli Galli Sim Sim has the capabilities and appeal to cut across various sections of the Indian society,” said Sashwati Banerjee, Executive Director of Sesame Workshop, India.
And how difficult was it for the organisation to start the programme in India? “It was extremely difficult. In each country we work in tandem with the government, since our programme is for the welfare of society. But things were really slow in India. In fact, we had been trying to come here for five to seven years before things finally started to work out. Even now, we pay Doordarshan to be on air despite being an educative programme for the children of the country. In this respect, we are grateful to have partners like Turner and Miditech,” she said.
The edutainment series, mainly catering to pre-schoolers, will be divided into three segments in its fourth season. In ‘Galli ki Duniya', the toddlers will experience the fun world of muppets and learn healthy habits from them. ‘Muppet on Location' will see the antics of Grover and Toto as they travel around the world, and in ‘Word of the Day', Elmo will teach a new word in each episode in his exciting and unique way.
The tiny tots can catch their share of fun and excitement Monday to Friday at 8:30 p.m. on Pogo and Cartoon Network. The show is also aired at 10:30 a.m. on Doordarshan every Saturday.
