Blending past with the present, Zee TV recently launched its new fantasy show Maharakshak Aryan with much fanfare. The show follows the story of a young, nerdy radio jockey who discovers his superpower inherited through his family on turning 18. It features the much used concept of finding and protecting a ‘Mani’ which controls life on earth.

“We wanted to bring ‘Mani’, which is an integral part of our mythology, to television for the present generation. We are proud that this show is bringing our ancient roots back.” said Akash Chawla, business head of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., at the press conference held at the Kingdom of Dreams.

“The show is the first instalment of a three-fold fantasy series which will fall under the umbrella of ‘Maharakshak’. Each instalment has been kept crisp with only 26 episodes covering the story.” Chawla added.

The superhero is not clad in an over-the-top costume but rather a very casual and contemporary look. “Aryan has a very modern look. He wears nerdy glasses and baggy jeans. Instead of a mask, he uses his hood to protect his identity from the public,” said Akarshan.

“The show has amazing graphics and special effects, perhaps the best on Indian television till yet. I really feel that the viewers of all age groups will find the show engaging.” he added.

Reshmi Ghosh, who plays the role of evil Vishkanya said, “This is one of the most challenging roles that I’ve done till date. The role required me to do scenes with real snakes which were quite intimidating.”

Talking about the overall appeal of the show to viewers across various age groups, Namit Sharma, Programming Head of Zee TV, said, “There has to be one over riding emotion in the show. In this show it is adventure and fantasy, but within these major emotions we have put in drama and comedy to give the show a wholesome flavour that can be enjoyed by people of all age-groups”.

The show focuses on the notion of ‘good over evil’ by introducing a new villain in each episode which Aryan will defeat as he moves ahead on his quest for ‘Mani’.
