This Sunday keep the doors of your house open for the Singh family as the new season of Best of Luck Nikki premiers on July 7 on Disney Channel at 10.30 a.m. The show, in its third season promises to be a treat for the audience with its new set of surprises, situations and characters.

“We have a new baby on board and there is fun in store for the viewers,” smiles Gurdeep Kohli, the actress who plays the mother, Hemani Singh in the show. Best of Luck Nikki tells the story of Hemani Singh (Gurdeep Kohli), a nurse, and Avatar Singh (Gireesh Sahedev), an electrician and their three older children with a little sister Nikki. And, when the family gears up to welcome the newest member baby Singh, it’s an exciting journey of fun and laughter and some heart-warming moments.

Recalling her shooting days, Gurdeep says, “All the actors on board were like a family. When kids are involved, things are bound to get uncertain. There was lot of camaraderie amongst us. There were two little children and two teenagers and we had lots of masti. I am their reel mother but on the sets, I was like a friend to them. During our breaks we would go out to a coffee shop and an eatery.”

Being a mother herself, Gurdeep has learnt from her own experience. “Being a mother definitely helps but it’s not true that only if you are a mother, you can play a mother’s part. Just like one need not be married to act as a married person, one need not be a real mother to be a reel mother,” says Gurdeep, who turns into a ‘Maha Mommy’ on the show.

Gurdeep shot to fame with the serial Sanjeevani where she played Dr. Juhi Singh. “Initially I began playing soft roles like in the serial Sanjeevani, then went on to do an intense and challenging role in Sindoor Tere Naam Ka. In Kasamh Se, I play a character with lot of maturity. Now I am doing comedy with Best of Luck Nikki. Comedy is not easy to do. One has to have a good comic timing to make the audience laugh,” she says. She was also part of STAR One’s Jet Set Go and danced her way in Nach Baliye 2 with her husband Arjun Punj. Gurdeep calls her show Bachha Party on Zee Khana Khazana as a feather in her cap. “I am a big foodie and love to cook. Being a part of this show has helped me hone my cooking skills and have learnt a lot about baking and preservatives,” she smiles.

Gurdeep also made her debut on the big screen with Rowdy Rathore directed by Prabhu Deva.

Being a mother definitely helps but it’s not true that only if you are a mother, you can play a mother’s part.
