Mandira Bedi first got noticed through her work in the afternoon soap Shanti . However, she captured people’s imagination with her unconventional wardrobe on the platform of cricket commentary and discussions.
The actor, who launched her label and store recently, is now featuring as a judge along with Tanishaa Mukherjee in Gangs of Haseepur on Zee TV. Recently in Noida to promote her latest work, Mandira said that on Gangs of Haseepur she is a representative of the audience, the common man. “I am said to be a judge on the show where I am not going to judge the performances nor am I going to give marks to the participants. So, I feel judge is not the correct word. We have shot four episodes and I am really enjoying every bit. On the show I am not going to laugh just for the sake of it like Sidhu (Navjot Singh Sidhu) who laughs on every joke. I will laugh only if a joke amuses me otherwise I am only going to smile. The idea behind the show is to reflect what’s happening in the country and humour is the best way of showing that. It will present different styles of comedy drawing from a host of subjects like politics, corruption, inflation etc. Even actors and sports personalities are not going to be spared.”
When asked about the lack of women comedians in the field, Mandira remarked, “It is really surprising but frankly speaking I do not have an answer to this question. We only have Bharti in the main league. I would love to see more women performers.”
Gangs of Haseepur airs on Zee every Saturday-Sunday at 8 p.m .
